ECTC will host a talk by noted Kentucky author Rosie Moosnick on Thursday, January 24 at 6:30 p.m in Room 212 of the Regional Postsecondary Center. Her talk, “Stereotypes Confronting Arabs and Jews in the US,” examines both how Arabs and Jews stereotype each other and how they are stereotyped by non-Arabs and non-Jews. This event is free and open to the public.
Moosnick is a native Kentuckian, more specifically, Lexingtonian. A sociologist by training, she has spent the past couple years conducting oral histories with Arabs and Jews in Kentucky. She transformed the oral histories into a book manuscript with particular focus on Arab and Jewish women, which was recently accepted for publication by the University of Kentucky Press. Rosie is passionate about this work because Kentucky is often construed as a place lacking in diverse lives. Currently, Rosie is teaching part-time at the University of Kentucky. For more information on Moosnick, visit her website at https://www.as.uky.edu/users/nrmoos2. For more information about the speaking engagement, contact John Dryden at jdryden0003@kctcs.edu. This presentation is sponsored by the ECTC Office of Cultural Diversity.
