This fall the Elizabethtown Community and Technical College Phoenix Club is sponsoring a community event on Thursday, October 18 - “Through My Eyes: A Celebration of Stories.” All community members are invited to participate. This is a good opportunity to learn about the purpose of the Phoenix Club and meet the members. Information about Phoenix Club membership and issues surrounding family violence will be available from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the Student Center on the Elizabethtown Community and Technical College campus.
A reception will begin at 5:30 p.m. with live music provided by the college band, EleCTriC, and snacks by the college culinary arts department with drawings for door prizes. A program will follow at 6 p.m. including presentations and discussions on the topic of moving from being a victim of domestic violence to becoming a survivor. Contributors who have written one page essays about obstacles they have overcome successfully will read some of those essays and receive certificates for the most inspirational. The public is invited to attend and to contribute their stories by submitting them to email address: phoenixclubectc@gmail.com by October 14th.
The Phoenix Club is an official organization within Elizabethtown Community and Technical College. Officers are college students but membership can include faculty, staff and concerned citizens. The purpose of the club is to be a central information point for the area to bring awareness of family violence including domestic violence and child abuse, disabilities, and other obstacles that students often have to overcome in order to complete their college education.
