Directed by Katrina Eicher, professor of communication and theatre, the play is a comedic telling of five of Aesop’s fables: The Fox and the Crow, The Fox and the Grapes, The Tortoise and the Hare, The Wolf in Sheep’s Clothing, and The Wind and the Sun. Children from the audience will interact with the actors, and adults will have plenty to entertain them. The production lasts about one hour.
The Toy Box Theatre was started at Elizabethtown Community College in 1998 by Professor Eicher. The cast is comprised of college students, many first-time actors, who enroll in the class to gain performance experience and reach out to our community. Many area elementary schools travel to the campus to enjoy a performance during a field trip during the daytime performances; in the 17 shows presented thus far, the Toy Box Theatre’s actors have played to over 9,100 people. Eicher says the goal of Toy Box Theatre is “to encourage imagination in our young audiences. We use common household products and toys for our props to show the kids that, by using your imagination, you can make theatre magic anywhere, with anything.”
